Celts Bite the Loss Against Bulldogs

Houston, TX- The University of St. Thomas women's soccer team hosted Texas Lutheran University in a highly anticipated conference match-up at SaberCats Stadium. The Celts entered the game ready to defend their home turf and battle for first place in the SCAC standings but fell just short, with the match concluding in a 1-0 loss to TLU. UST's overall record now stands at 9-2-4, with a conference record of 6-1-2.

As the first half began, the Celts came out with intensity, dominating possession and putting immediate pressure on the Bulldogs' defense. Ashlee Stoltje led the charge with the first shot attempt, setting the tone for UST's determination to score. The Celts maintained control and tallied five shots in the opening portion of the half, continuing to challenge TLU's goalkeeper. Sydney Ferguson added to the offensive momentum with a close attempt, keeping the pace high as both teams battled evenly. Despite UST's relentless attack, the first half ended scoreless, 0-0.

Coming into the second half, both teams pushed to find a steady formation. UST worked to maintain their rhythm and defensive structure, but TLU managed to slip through and score, taking a 1-0 lead. The Celts refused to back down, responding with a ripple of offensive efforts led by Nicole Cruzco, as UST continued to create scoring opportunities. Despite several close chances, the Celts were unable to find the net, and the match concluded at 1-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.
