Celts Defeat LETU for Another Sweep

LONGVIEW, TX – The University of St. Thomas volleyball team kept their winning momentum rolling with a clean sweep over LeTourneau University, taking the match 25-18, 25-21, 25-16. With the victory, the Celts improved to 20-3 overall and 10-1 in conference play.

In the first set, UST came out establishing control early. Kills from Brooke Barnes, Alexis Bodunrin, and Ariana Willis, paired with several LETU errors, pushed the Celts ahead 12-6. The Yellowjackets tried to gain some rhythm, but Barnes and Bodunrin continued to apply pressure to extend the lead to 18-12. UST closed out the set strong behind more attacks from Barnes, Willis, and Bodunrin to take the opening frame 25-18.

Set two brought a different tone as the Yellowjackets came out swinging. Both teams traded points in a tight stretch until things evened up at 11-11. LETU made a small run to lead 14-11 before UST responded with kills from Barnes and Bodunrin to tie things back up. The Celts regained the edge late in the set thanks to key kills from Willis and Noor Haydari, along with LETU errors, to close it out 25-21.

The third set saw UST return to full control. The Celts jumped ahead early and never looked back, maintaining their rhythm on offense and capitalizing on Yellowjacket mistakes to complete the sweep with a 25-16 win.

Alexis Bodunrin led the offense with 17 kills, while Ariana Willis and Jazilyn Davis each added 8. Davis also contributed 2 aces, joined by Mia Medina and Noor Haydari with one apiece. At the net, Haydari led with 5 blocks, followed by Bodunrin with 3 and Karrington Kays with 2. Medina paced the team with 20 assists, while Jada Stallworth added 15 and Carly Lange chipped in 6. Defensively, Lange led with 15 digs, followed by Bodunrin with 9 and Medina with 8.
