UST Defeats SCAC Newcomers LETU

LONGVIEW, TX –  St. Thomas women's soccer team continued their strong form, earning a 1-0 win over conference newcomers LeTourneau University on Sunday evening. With the victory, the Celts improve to 6-1-4 overall and 3-0-2 in conference.

From the opening whistle, the Celts set the tone offensively, maintaining possession and generating early scoring opportunities. Within the first five minutes, St. Thomas fired multiple shots on goal from Abigail Davila and Bre Medina, forcing LeTourneau's goalkeeper to make several saves.

Sydney Ferguson led a persistent UST attack with a pair of dangerous attempts, while Emma Cerda and Vanessa Romero also tested the YellowJackets' defense. Despite outshooting LeTourneau 11-4 in the first half and earning multiple corner kicks, the Celts couldn't find the back of the net and entered halftime in a scoreless draw.

The Celts continued to dominate possession after the break, pushing the pace and creating scoring chances from multiple players including Fernanda Alvarado, Alicia Chi, and Nicole Cruzco. Goalkeeper Kylie Soich came up big for the Celts, recording several key saves to keep the match level. The breakthrough finally came in the 82nd minute when Sydney Ferguson netted her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Joselin Cardentey, giving UST the 1-0 advantage. The Celts' defense held strong for the final minutes, keeping LeTourneau off the board to secure another shutout win.
