SAN ANTONIO, TX – The University of St. Thomas women's tennis team opened play Thursday in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, hosted by Trinity University, with all six Celts entered in the Championship Draw for singles and three pairs in the Championship Draw for doubles.

Singles – Championship Draw

In the Round of 64, Sophie Tahtouh defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor 6-2, 6-3, Mariel Herrera defeated East Texas Baptist 6-4, 6-2, Hannah Snyder defeated LeTourneau 6-2, 6-2, and Marlie McArthur defeated Concordia 6-0, 6-2 to advance. Liana Herrera fell to East Texas Baptist 2-6, 2-6, and Nataly Velasco fell to Concordia 3-6, 0-6.

In the Round of 32, Tahtouh defeated Southwestern 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the Round of 16. Herrera fell in a third-set match tiebreak to Mary Hardin-Baylor, 6-4, 1-6, [7-10]. Snyder fell to Trinity 1-6, 1-6, and McArthur fell in a third-set match tiebreak to Mary Hardin-Baylor, 4-6, 6-3, [11-13].

Singles – Championship Consolation

Dropping into consolation play, Liana Herrera defeated Texas Lutheran 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the consolation Round of 16, where she'll get a bye into Friday's action. Nataly Velasco fell to Schreiner 3-6, 4-6.

Doubles – Championship Draw

In the Round of 32, Tahtouh and Herrera defeated Southwestern 8-3 to advance to the Round of 16, and McArthur and Snyder defeated University of Dallas 8-1 to advance to the Round of 16. Liana Herrera and Velasco fell to Howard Payne 3-8.
