HOUSTON, TX— Men's soccer team lost a tough 3–1 game at home against Texas A&M-Victoria at SaberCats Stadium. Both teams played hard in a physical matchup, but the visiting Jaguars made the most of their scoring chances to take the win. With the result, the Celts now have a 2–2 overall record on the season.
St. Thomas got on the board first early in the opening half when Tony Castro scored in the 11th minute (10:13) off a pass from Brian Garcia to put the Celts ahead 1–0. That lead lasted for over fifteen minutes while both teams fought for the ball in the middle of the field. Texas A&M-Victoria managed to answer in the 27th minute (26:32) to tie the game at 1–1 before scoring again in the 36th minute (35:54) to take a 2–1 lead into halftime.
The Celts pushed hard to tie the game in the second half, creating early pressure with shot attempts from Diego Guerra and Moises Gonzalez. St. Thomas kept building plays on offense, but the Jaguars' defense held strong against the pressure. Texas A&M-Victoria eventually put the game away in the 87th minute (86:42) by scoring on a penalty kick to make the final score 3–1.
St. Thomas finished with 10 total shots and put 4 of them on goal during the match. Goalkeeper Max Rodriguez played the full 90 minutes in net for the Celts, making 5 saves in the game.
