Box Score HOUSTON, TX— The St. Thomas women's soccer team earned a 3–2 victory at home against North American University at SaberCats Stadium, marking the first collegiate win for head coach Nathan Day with UST and bringing their record to 1-0
St. Thomas got on the board first in the 36th minute when Alexia Richard found the back of the net unassisted. North American University responded right before halftime and scored in the 44th minute to tie the game at 1–1 heading into halftime.
The physical play picked up in the second half, leading to four goals and four yellow cards overall. St. Thomas broke the tie in the 78th minute when Ashleyh Ruiz scored off a setup from Nicole Cruzco to take a 2–1 lead. NAU answered back in the 86th minute with an unassisted goal to tie the game at 2–2. However, the Celts took advantage just seconds later in the 88th minute when Alexia Richard struck again, scoring her second goal of the match, another assist from Nicole Cruzco to push the final score to 3–2.
St. Thomas outshot NAU 11–10, with both teams placing 7 attempts on goal.
