Box Score HOUSTON, TX— The St. Thomas women's soccer team scored early and often at SaberCats Stadium, pulling away for a 6-1 exhibition win over Wiley University. The performance provided a strong test for the Celts as they continue building momentum for the season.
UST took control right from kickoff, setting a fast pace and keeping heavy pressure on the defense. Alexia Richard put the Celts on the board early with a goal in the 5th minute. St. Thomas kept up the attack as Emma Quintanilla scored off an assist from Bre Medina in the 15th minute to extend the lead. Richard struck again in the 36th minute for her second goal of the match, and Nicole Cruzco added another off a setup from Quintanilla in the 40th minute to give UST a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Celts kept the intensity going in the second half, controlling the match while continuing to create chances. Ashlee Stoltje found the back of the net off an assist from Asanah Gordon in the 76th minute, and Gordon added a goal of her own in the 83rd minute to put the game out of reach. Wiley scored a late goal in the 89th minute, but UST closed out the final minutes to lock in the 6-1 win.
The Celts outshot Wiley 14-7, putting 12 of those attempts on goal while limiting the opposing attack to just seven total shots.
