Longview, TX - The University of St. Thomas softball team earned a pair of strong victories over LeTourneau University, defeating the YellowJackets 6–1 and 13–2. With the pair of wins, the Celts improve their overall record to 24-5 and 22-2 in conference play. The Celts combined an explosive start in Game 1 with a dominant, late-game offensive surge in Game 2, using consistent production at the plate to take control and secure both wins.
Game 1: UST 6, LETU 1
St. Thomas set the tone immediately in the first inning. Samantha Crumrin singled through the left side to drive in Rebecca Archibald for the game's first run. Ciaira Gonzalez followed with an RBI groundout to score Savana Henken, and Viviana Vargas added another RBI groundout to bring home Chloe Bennett, giving the Celts a 3–0 advantage.
LeTourneau responded in the bottom of the first with an RBI double to cut the lead to 3–1, but that would be as close as they would get.
The Celts added to their lead in the third inning. Avery Pinz used her speed on the bases, eventually scoring on a wild pitch to make it 4–1. Later in the inning, Vargas delivered an RBI single to bring Pinz home and extend the lead to 5–1.
St. Thomas continued to apply pressure in the sixth inning when Henken singled up the middle to drive in Gigi Rivera, pushing the lead to 6–1.
The Celts' pitching and defense held firm over the final innings, limiting LeTourneau's opportunities and securing the win.
Game 2: UST 13, LETU 2
St. Thomas opened the scoring in the second inning when Gigi Rivera doubled down the left field line to bring home Sophie Hassall for a 1–0 lead.
The Celts added another run in the third inning as Samantha Crumrin reached on a throwing error, allowing Chloe Bennett to score and extend the advantage to 2–0.
St. Thomas broke the game open in the fourth inning when Rebecca Archibald tripled to left-center field, driving in Rivera and Hassall to push the lead to 4–0.
The Celts continued to build in the fifth inning. Rivera singled to score Viviana Vargas, and Hassall added a sacrifice fly to bring in another run, making it 6–0. LeTourneau answered with a run in the bottom half to cut the deficit to 6–1.
St. Thomas responded again in the sixth inning as Vargas doubled to left-center field, driving in Olivia Sanchez and Crumrin. Ana Zozaya followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 9–1. LeTourneau added a run in the inning, but the Celts remained firmly in control at 9–2.
The Celts sealed the victory with a dominant seventh inning, scoring four more runs. A defensive error allowed Bennett to score, Rivera drew a bases-loaded walk, Isabella Rios added an RBI single, and Savana Henken capped the rally with another RBI single to bring the final score to 13–2.
