HOUSTON, TX – The University of St. Thomas' softball team continued its strong start to the season with a dominant 13–0 shutout victory over McMurry University. With the win, the Celts improve to an impressive 9–2 overall record. St. Thomas erupted offensively in the middle innings and backed it up with a commanding performance to secure the run-rule victory.
St. Thomas began scoring in the second inning when Olivia Sanchez reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Ciaira Gonzalez to cross the plate for a 1–0 lead.
The Celts broke the game wide open in the third inning with an explosive offensive outburst. Samantha Crumrin sparked the momentum with a two-run triple to right field, scoring Chloe Bennett and Rebecca Archibald. Gonzalez later reached on an error to bring Crumrin home, and Kianah Johnson followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 5–0.
The third inning continued to mount points for UST. Isabella Rios added an RBI single, and Archibald reached on a fielder's choice that resulted in another run scoring. Bennett delivered a two-run double to left field, and Crumrin capped her huge inning with a two-run double to center field. Sophie Hassall added an RBI single to complete the 11-run third inning and give the Celts a commanding 12–0 advantage.
St. Thomas added one final run in the fourth when Crumrin singled to center field to score Kaitlyn Key and push the lead to 13–0.
Crumrin led the way at the plate with three hits, including a triple and double, and five RBIs. Bennett added three hits and two RBIs, while Gonzalez recorded two hits and an RBI. The Celts totaled 17 hits in the contest and were aggressive on the bases, successfully completing multiple stolen bases.
St. Thomas limited McMurry to just two hits while keeping them off of the scoreboard to secure the shutout victory.
