St. Thomas Caps Off Alabama Weekend with a Sweep

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – St. Thomas volleyball team wrapped up their weekend tournament in Alabama with a convincing sweep over LaGrange College on Saturday afternoon. The Celts claimed the match in straight sets, 25-8, 25-15, and 25-21, to improve to 8-0 on the season.

The opening set was all UST, as the Celts stormed out to a lead. Behind the steady setting of Mia Medina, the offense flowed through Ariana Willis, who fired off multiple kills and rattled off an incredible run of service aces to put the set out of reach early. Contributions from Alexis Bodunrin and Tasmine Maxwell added to the momentum, while a late kill from Sara Randall closed out a dominant 25-8 win.

In the second set, LaGrange looked to respond, but the Celts continued their balanced attack. Jazilyn Davis and Noor Haydari provided key kills, while Alexis Eversull and Randall added sparks. UST used a 6-1 scoring stretch in the middle of the frame to build separation, and a kill from Tasmine Maxwell sealed the 25-15.

The final set brought more resistance from LaGrange, but the Celts held steady. Katelyn Marti and Karrington Kays made their presence known at the net with timely blocks, while Carly Lange kept rallies alive with strong defense in the back row. Offensively, Randall and Willis provided late kills, and Bodunrin finished the match with the decisive point in a 25-21 to secure the sweep.

The Celts were led by Alexis Bodunrin, Ariana Willis, and Jazilyn Davis, who each tallied four kills, while Willis also added five service aces. Medina dished out 14 assists to pace the offense, and Lange anchored the defense with 17 digs. At the net, Marti recorded two blocks.
