Celts Lock Up War Hawks 3-0

Abilene, TX – St. Thomas Men's soccer team finish off their weekend road trip with a final stop at Elmer Gray Stadium in Abilene, TX, to face McMurry University. The Celts dominated the War Hawks, earning a commanding 3-0 victory. With the win, UST improves to 6-1 overall, remains unbeaten in conference play at 2-0, and extends their winning streak to six straight matches this season.

UST wasted no time asserting themselves, looking to take an early lead by looking for open scoring opportunities. Just 16 minutes into the game, Jovany Garcia put the Celts on the board with the first goal of the match, giving UST a 1-0 advantage. The War Hawks responded and attempted to fight back, but the Celts' defense stood firm, and goalkeeper Jorge Gonzalez recorded two critical saves in the half. Before the break, Jacob Reyes nearly extended the lead with back-to-back shots on goal, but the score remained 1-0 heading into halftime.

In the second half, UST came out with high energy and continued to search for weak spots in the War Hawks' formation. The Celts pressed forward, moving back-and-forth to find the right chemistry on offense. Tony Castro led the charge with four shot attempts that put McMurry's defense under pressure, setting the tone for what was to come. In the 83rd minute, Jacob Reyes broke through with a goal to extend the Celts' lead. And just minutes later, Reyes struck again in the 86th minute, this time assisted by Brandon Delaney, to seal the match. St. Thomas closed out the game with ease, finalizing a 3-0 shutout victory.
