Celts Defeat the Crusaders, Extending Their Win Streak

HOUSTON, TX – UST faced off against SCAC opponent University of Dallas Crusaders in their first conference home match of the season at SaberCats Stadium. St. Thomas showed their dominance as they carried on their seven-game winning streak, improving their overall record to 7-1 and securing a 3-0 mark in SCAC play.

The Celts came out hot, starting early and making an impression on the Crusaders. UST continued to search for scoring opportunities, going shot for shot and causing Dallas to act hasty on defense. In the 29th minute, freshman Enrique Ventura broke through and scored his first career goal as a Celt, giving UST a 1-0 lead. The momentum carried over as Aldo Hernandez nearly doubled the advantage with a strike that found the back of the net, but the attempt was called back for offsides. This left St. Thomas to enter halftime with a narrow but confident 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the Celts picked up the pace and pressed hard against the Dallas back line, taking advantage of keep control of the game. UST's pressure finally paid off in the 83rd minute when the team earned a penalty kick. Jovany Garcia stepped up and effortlessly made the shot, extending the Celts' lead to 2-0. From there, the defense held firm, shutting down any late chances from Dallas and secured a solid 2-0 victory.

Match Notes:
