Houston, TX– The University of St. Thomas men's soccer team hosted North American University at SaberCats Stadium in Houston, TX. Having already defeated the Stallions earlier this season, the Celts looked to close out their opponent once again—and they did just that with a strong 2-0 victory.
The Stallions came out determined in the first half, pressing forward and attempting to break through UST's defense. However, goalkeeper
Jorge Gonzalez stood tall, making key saves to keep the game's momentum going. The Celts, turned the momentum into offensive pressure of their own and in the 37th minute,
Tony Castro scored for UST, with a well-placed assist from
Brian Garcia to put the Celts ahead 1-0. With control of the match, St. Thomas carried their lead confidently into halftime.
The second half saw intensity rise, with disputes and foul play dictating the game's rhythm but the Celts maintained their composure, continuing to push forward in search of a way out. Their persistence paid off when they earned a penalty kick, scored by
Jeth Flores extending the lead to 2-0. From there, UST managed the match with discipline, keeping the Stallions tamed and securing another win of the season over NAU.
Celts Now sit at 3-1 as their record.
