Box Score HOUSTON,TX-- The University of St. Thomas volleyball team opened its 2025 season in fashion, sweeping Adrian College 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-16) Friday inside the Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center. With the victory, the Celts start the year 1-0.
In the opening set, the Bulldogs struck first, but the Celts quickly settled in. Behind the firepower of Alexis Bodunrin and a string of Bulldog errors, UST raced to a 15-6 lead. From there, the Celts never looked back, using back-to-back kills from Jazilyn Davis and Karrington Kays to close out a commanding 25-10 set win.
Set two proved to be a battle. After UST built an early 5-2 advantage, Adrian clawed back and eventually pulled ahead 18-14. But the Celts responded with poise, capitalizing on Bulldog miscues before a timely kill from Ariana Willis swung the momentum. UST stormed ahead, finishing on an 11-1 run to capture the set 25-19.
The third set mirrored the second in intensity. UST grabbed control at 9-6 and extended the lead with back-to-back kills from Audrey Cataline and Jazilyn Davis. Adrian made one final push, trimming the deficit to 15-20, but the Celts had the answer. Key swings from Bodunrin, Willis, Cataline, and Noor Haydari fueled a closing surge that secured the 25-16 victory and the sweep.
The Celts were powered offensively by Cataline, who led all players with 13 kills, while Bodunrin followed with 11 kills and 18 digs to complete a stellar two-way performance. Haydari added eight kills and two blocks in the middle. Setting duties were split efficiently between Mia Medina (23 assists, 2 aces) and Jada Stallworth (14 assists, 10 digs), while Carly Lange anchored the back row with 17 digs.
