San Antonio, TX – The University of St. Thomas women's soccer team play No. 23 Pacific Lutheran University at Paul McGinlay Field for a non-conference match-up. In a hard-fought contest, the Celts showed their resilience and proved they could compete with a nationally ranked opponent, battling to a 1-1 draw.
In the first half, both teams fought head-to-head to make the first goal. The Celts held on strong and attacked, registering six shots compared to the Lutes' five, showing their determination to take control early. The breakthrough came shortly after halftime, when in the 53rd minute,
Fernanda Alvarado (#9) made the recorded goal with a set up by excellent teamwork, from
Emma Cerda (#3) and
Sydney Ferguson (#7) providing an assist. Pacific Lutheran responded with efforts later in the half, but goalkeeper
Kylie Soich (#1) stood firm to preserve the result as the match closed in a 1-1 tie.
Carrying momentum from two earlier wins and now a draw against a top-23 opponent, the Celts look strong and confident heading into the conference. Their hard work does not go unnoticed against this nationally ranked competition, highlight the team's growth and potential for the 2025 season.
