GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of St. Thomas (TX) softball team closed out their series at Southwestern in dominant fashion, earning a pair of lopsided wins to complete the three-game sweep. The Celts took Game 1 with a 10-0 shutout, then followed up with an explosive 16-1 victory in Game 2. With the sweep, UST improves to 23-10 overall and 19-4 in conference.
Game 1 UST 10, SW 0
The Celts wasted no time getting on the board in the opening game. In the first inning, Ana Zozaya drove in a run with a single, and Zoe Acosta followed with a two-RBI base hit to make it 3-0.
UST kept the pressure on in the second and third innings before breaking it wide open in the fifth. A string of walks, clutch hits—including an RBI single from Chloe Bennett—and another two-RBI plate appearance from Zozaya helped the Celts put up five runs in the inning, sealing the 10-0 run-rule win.
Game 2 UST 16, SW 1
Game 2 featured an offensive showcase led by Jaelyn Simmons, who launched a three-run homer in the second inning and added a sacrifice fly and RBI walk later in the game. UST jumped out to a 5-0 lead early, and after Southwestern got on the board with a solo home run, the Celts responded with 11 unanswered runs across the final innings.
The scoring parade in the seventh included RBIs from Bennett, Savannah Crumrin, Acosta, and Hernandez to cap off the 16-1 blowout.
