Celts Sweep Schreiner to Close Series

HOUSTON,TX- Softball team secured back-to-back wins against Schreiner in a Saturday doubleheader, completing the series sweep. The Celts improved to 16-7 overall and 13-4 in SCAC play with dominant performances in both games.

Game 1: UST 12, Schreiner 0

St. Thomas wasted no time in the opener, exploding for six runs in the first inning. Chloe Bennett got the scoring started with a two-run double, bringing in Jaelyn Simmons and Rebecca Archibald and Genesis Mares followed with an RBI triple, and Savana Henken added another run on a fielder's choice. Gabby Davila and Destiny Moreno capped off the frame with back-to-back RBI hits to give UST a 6-0 lead.

The offense continued in the second, as Henken drove in another run on a sacrifice fly. In the third, Simmons plated Davila with a deep flyout to center, pushing the lead to 8-0. The Celts sealed the victory in the fourth, tacking on four more runs, highlighted by RBI singles from Viviana Vargas and Meagan Anderson. The dominant showing ended in a 12-0 shutout victory.

Game 2: UST 11, Schriener 3

In the series finale, St. Thomas struck early again, with Bennett delivering an RBI single in the first and Samantha Crumrin adding a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.

The Celts took advantage of Schreiner's miscues in the second, scoring three more runs on an error, a bases-loaded walk, and another miscue, extending their lead to 5-0.

Schreiner responded in the third, cutting the deficit to 5-3, but UST quickly answered back. Bennett drove in a run in the bottom of the inning, while Moreno, Simmons, and Crumrin led a fourth-inning surge, combining for five RBIs to secure an 11-3 victory.

The Celts will travel to Brownwood for a non-conference matchup against Howard Payne on March 28-29.
