HOUSTON, TX-- Isaac Odongo's path to baseball at the University of St. Thomas was anything but traditional. Growing up in Uganda, Odongo initially dreamed of playing soccer or rugby before attending Allen VR Stanley Secondary School, a baseball-focused high school that introduced him to the game that would shape his future.
 

After hitting his first home run as a teenager, Odongo fully committed to baseball. As his skills developed, coaches encouraged him to pursue college baseball in the United States, guiding him through a transition from hitter to pitcher. Just as opportunities began to open, the COVID-19 pandemic brought uncertainty. Odongo responded by continuing to train and applying to additional schools, eventually choosing St. Thomas due to Houston's familiar climate and its strong Ugandan community.

Joining the Celts mid-year, Odongo quickly adapted to college life while majoring in finance. He contributed both on and off the field, becoming involved in athletics operations by helping manage gameday events and working as a camera operator. On the diamond, he was part of a young UST baseball program that reached its first conference tournament, a milestone moment for the team.

Injuries later limited his time on the mound, including elbow surgery and a subsequent illness that disrupted his return. Despite these setbacks, Odongo stayed focused on his recovery, academics, and supporting his teammates. His motivation was fueled by family, especially his nephew Emmanuel, whose determination continues to inspire him.

Now a St. Thomas graduate, Odongo is preparing for the next chapter of his journey. Whether pursuing opportunities to remain in the United States or returning to Uganda to coach and give back, his goal remains clear—to continue growing, inspire others, and define success through impact, resilience, and service.
