ABILENE, TX – St. Thomas Volleyball team bounced back in dominant fashion, earning a 3-1 victory over McMurry University on the road. Set scores were 25-23, 23-25, 29-27, and 25-17. With the win, the Celts improve to 22-4 overall and 12-2 in conference.
The first set was a tightly contested battle, with both teams exchanging points early on. UST went on a 4-0 run to take a 12-10 lead, fueled by strong hitting from Alexis Bodunrin. McMurry briefly regained the lead before back-to-back kills from Bodunrin put the Celts back ahead 19-17. Errors by the Warhawks helped UST close out the set 25-23 to take an early match lead.
The second set mirrored the first in intensity. Although UST held an early advantage, McMurry rallied to take the lead 10-5 after a series of kills and Celt miscues. The Celts responded with an 8-0 run to go up 13-11 and later extended their lead to 17-13. However, the Warhawks capitalized on late UST errors and surged ahead to win the set 25-23, tying the match 1-1.
In the third set, both teams continued to trade points in a high-energy frame. McMurry led early, but UST fought back to tie it at 15. Kills from Brooke Barnes, Bodunrin, Noor Haydari, and Karrington Kays pushed the Celts ahead 20-18. The Warhawks tied it again at 21, but the Celts stayed composed in the tense finish. UST eventually secured the set 29-27 after key kills from Barnes and Bodunrin.
The fourth set carried the same competitive tone. With the score tied at multiple points—8-8, 11-11, and 16-16—UST found its rhythm late, going on a decisive 9-0 run. The surge was powered by kills from Barnes, Bodunrin, and Haydari, along with a few service aces that sealed the 25-17 win and the match victory.
Alexis Bodunrin led the Celts with 22 kills and 14 digs, continuing her standout performance this season. Karrington Kays added 7 kills, while Ariana Willis contributed 6. Carly Lange anchored the back row with a stellar 37 digs, and Mia Medina recorded a double-double with 25 assists and 14 digs.
