LONGVIEW, TX-- St. Thomas men's soccer team came up short in SCAC play, falling 3-1 to LeTourneau on Sunday eveningĀ in Longview, TX. With the result, the Celts move to 7-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference action.
The opening half saw multiple chances for the Celts, led by Jacob Reyes who pressured the LeTourneau defense with several early looks. Despite the strong start, LeTourneau capitalized in the 16th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Celts had a golden opportunity to equalize late in the first half, but a penalty kick from Jovany Garcia narrowly missed the mark, keeping it a one-goal game at halftime.
In the second half, the Celts regrouped and found their rhythm offensively. Brian Garcia scored the equalizer in the 73rd minute off an assist from Jose Hernandez to make it 1-1. However, despite a spirited effort, LeTourneau regained the lead just minutes later and added another late goal to seal the match 3-1.
