SHERMAN, TX – The University of St. Thomas Men's Soccer team hit the road to Sherman, TX, to take on the Austin College Roos at the Pierce Complex. The Celts entered the match ready to continue their strong season run, bringing energy and determination to the field. Despite the hard-fought battle, UST fell short with a 2-0 result. The Celts now sit at an overall record of 7-2-1 and a conference record of 3-1-1.
From the start, UST came out with intensity, testing the Roos' defense within the opening minute as Yohan Bernard-Le fired an early shot. Although Austin College found an early goal in the second minute, the Celts refused to back down. St. Thomas created multiple chances throughout the half with shot attempts from Juan Guzman, Brandon Delaney, and Enrique Ventura, pushing the pace and applying pressure. The Roos managed to find another shot opportunity resulting in a 2-0 lead now going into halftime, causing the Celts to stay on their toes.
In the second half, the Celts came out with renewed fire, controlling much of the tempo and creating scoring opportunities from all sides. Shots from Brian Garcia, Aldo Hernandez, and Emmanuel Rodriguez kept the Roos' goalkeeper busy, as St. Thomas continued to fight for a breakthrough. Despite Austin's compact defense, UST out-shot the Roos in the second half, showcasing their resilience and refusal to quit. Jacob Reyes, Tony Castro, and Jovany Garcia each contributed late efforts on goal as well, forcing multiple saves and corner kicks that demonstrated the Celts' attacking persistence until the final whistle to end the game at 2-0.
Even in defeat, the Celts show their ability to compete through adversity and maintain their strong presence in SCAC play.
