Celts Face Tough Test Against Mary Hardin-Baylor

HOUSTON, TX - The University of St. Thomas women's basketball team took on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a challenging non-conference matchup on New Year's Eve, falling 61-49. The Celts now hold a 2-6 overall record while remaining 0-1 in conference play.

Mary Hardin-Baylor started strong, opening the first quarter with a scorching 13-0 run, fueled by back-to-back three-pointers. Midway through the quarter, Macie Whitfield ended the drought for UST with a layup. In the second quarter, Audrey Hernandez's three-pointer provided a spark, but the Crusaders' relentless offense kept them in control, leading 34-15 at halftime.

In the second half, the Crusaders continued to dominate. However, the Celts found a late-game rhythm in the fourth quarter with back-to-back three-pointers from Amber Bourgeois and Audrey Hernandez. Despite this momentum, Mary Hardin-Baylor's steady control secured their victory.

Amber Bourgeois led with 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 steals, while Zoiey Jumawan added 9 points on efficient shooting. Kenna Gibson chipped in 8 points and 3 rebounds, and Amyia Bowie contributed a team-high 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
