It was a toasty afternoon at Houston Sports Park for the University of St. Thomas Lady Celts to face the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs 2-1 loss.
The first half saw a lot of back and forth between the two strong teams. The Bulldogs lead the first half in shots with five, four of which were on goal. In the 31st minute, the Bulldogs #25 managed to get one past goalkeeper Sadie Penney. The Celts managed two shots, both of which were on goal. In the 34th minute of the match UST goalkeeper Sadie Penney was fouled and injured; Sophia Escontreares replaced her. The first half ended 1-0.
The Bulldogs came out strong in the second half and early on they earned a free kick just outside of the penalty area. Again, number #25's free kick made it's way to the bottom right corner and put the Bulldogs up 2-0 in the 47th minute. More corners were earned for the Celts as they pushed their attack, and although chances were created they were just unable to get on the scoreboard for some time. After the Celts raised the game, senior Hailie Hernandez yet again scored another beautiful left footed rocket to put the Celts on the scoreboard in the 86th minute. Overall the Celts lead the game with shots taken with twelve shots, six on goal. TLU managed nine shots, eight on goal. The final scoreboard read 2-1 in favor of Texas Lutheran University.
Next up the Celts face The University of Dallas on Friday, October 7th at 7:30pm at Houston Sports Park.
