The University of St. Thomas women's soccer team opened up their first of two games this weekend with a strong win, defeating the Jarvis Christian College Bulldogs 12-0.
The scoring started early with Alexa Noyola (SR/Houston, TX) finding the back of the net in the 4th minute thanks to an assist from Aeriana Lewis (FR/Houston, TX). Narcedalia Yanez (SR/Channelview, TX) soon followed in the 9th minute with an assist by Noyola, and the Celts continued the scoring trend throughout the first half with Noyola scoring two more goals in the 14th and 22nd minutes and Siobhan Higgins (SR/Katy, TX) finding the back of the net in the 18th minute. Kennedy Sessions (JR/Spring, TX) also scored her first goal of the season in the 25th minute, putting the Celts up by six at halftime. The Celt defense also had a strong first half performance, only allowing the Bulldogs two shots on goalkeeper Jordan Thompson (SR/Spring, TX).
The second half again showed the team's offensive dominance with another six goals, starting with Noyola scoring her 4th of the night off of an assist by Juliana Miguel (SR/Goiania, Brazil). Miguel then had another assist in the 68th minute on a goal by Katarina Maksimov (JR/Richmond, TX). Sessions scored her second of the night in the 70th minute, with the assist by Higgins. Another first goal as a Celt happened for Shadel Cyrus (SR/Kingstown, St. Vincent and the) n the 73rd minute off of a penalty kick. Yanez soon followed with her second of the night in the 84th minute. Cyrus capped off the match in the 89th minute with the team's final goal of the night. The UST defense commanded by Mariah Escobar (SR/Houston, TX) and Sydney Wright (JR/Katy, TX) again had a strong half with only one shot by the Bulldogs as Thompson earned the shutout.
The Celts improve to 7-2-1 (5-0-1 in the RRAC) and face the Texas College (1-9 overall) this Saturday at home for Parent's Night (October 13th, 5:30 pm at Houston Sports Park).
