University of St. Thomas (Houston)

DaVette McCall is a University of St. Thomas Volleyball Alumni, in which she played under Coach Burt's leadership and graduated with a Bachelors in Business Administration in 2016. She later received her Master's Degree in Sports Administration through Arkansas State. 

She returned to the program in the spring of 2026, working with setters and attackers.  McCall will guide the the Celts offensive systems as well as manage scouting and setter training.
DaVette started coaching in 2012 managing her first club team and after graduating college went into public education and coaching. Her high school coaching career began in 2018 as the head coach at Splendora High School. In 2019, the team broke the school record for most wins in a season as well as the furthest playoff run in school history, losing in the regional semi-finals in the 5^th set 15-13. In 2021, she coached at Dayton High School, tripling their wins in one season, and coaching the following year at Klein Oak High School, bringing the team back to playoffs from a 4-year drought.  

Through her coaching career she has received the Courier Coach of the Year, District Coach of the Year, and AVCA 30 under 30 Club award. She has also coached numerous athletes who have received AVCA Phenoms, JVA Watchlist, District Selections, All-Area, All-Region, All-Academic, and have continued their career to play volleyball collegiately. Throughout college she was a 4-year captain and setter. She played 2 years at Wharton County Junior College before transferring to finish her last 2 years at University of St. Thomas. In her collegiate career she received the Johnnie Frankie Award, RRAC Setter of the Year, as well as All-Conference and All-Academic Awards.  Prior to college she graduated from Tarkington High School in which she played on 1 of the 3 teams who made it to the state tournament.

Throughout her high school career, she earned, TGCA All-Star, TGCA All-State, TGCA Academic All-State, Athletic and Academic District Awards, including Setter of the Year, as well as TSWA 1st Team, and SETX Player of the Year.

This will be DaVette's first year on the Celts coaching staff and she is excited to be back under Coach Burt's leadership.
