Angela Froboese

Angela Froboese

Angela Froboese was named as the first varsity softball coach in the history of the University of St. Thomas when she was hired in June 2019. The Celts’ inaugural season is scheduled for the Spring of 2021.

A native of Katy, Texas, Froboese is no stranger to building quality NCAA Division III programs from scratch. She was the first softball coach hired by Southwestern University, which began play in 2009. In her 11 seasons at the Georgetown, Texas campus, Froboese compiled a 270-176-1 record, and led the Pirates to two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament championships and two NCAA Regional Tournament appearances.

Froboese led Southwestern to a 19-16 record during the team's inaugural season in 2009. In 2010, she guided the Pirates to the first of their two tournament championships during her tenure; Southwestern went 33-13 during that second season.

In 2019, Froboese and Southwestern compiled a 35-6 record, the best mark in team history. During her tenure, Froboese was named the SCAC’s Coach of the Year five times, and Southwestern was ranked in the nation’s Top 25 multiple times.

Prior to arriving at Southwestern, Froboese spent four seasons as the head coach at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. She compiled an 85-65 record at Howard Payne, which included a program-best 28-12 record during the 2007 season. Howard Payne led the nation in doubles during Froboese’s first season as head coach.

During her four seasons in Brownwood, Froboese’s teams produced three All-West Region players, 27 All-American Southwest Conference players, and nine All-Americans as named by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

She earned her bachelor's degree (kinesiology) and master's degree (educational leadership) from Stephen F. Austin State University, where she played Division I softball for four seasons. At the conclusion of her collegiate career, Froboese set school career marks with 98 RBIs, 36 doubles, and 123 runs scored. She was named the Southland Conference’s Utility Player of the Year in 2001.
