NEWARK, NJ— The St. Thomas men's soccer team dropped a tight 2–1 decision on the road against Kean University at Lubetkin Field at J. Malcolm Simon Stadium. Despite generating 28 total shot attempts, the Celts were unable to pull ahead in a physical second half. With the result, St. Thomas moves to 2–4–1 on the season.
The first half proved to be a back-and-forth battle as both teams created scoring chances. Diego Guerra, Aldo Hernandez, and Tony Castro each put shots on target early for St. Thomas, but Kean's goalkeeper turned away every test. Kean broke the scoreless tie in the 36th minute (35:08) to take a 1–0 lead into the halftime break.
St. Thomas continued to push forward in the second half, creating continuous pressure in the attacking third. After playing a man down following a red card in the 76th minute (75:11), the Celts fought right back in the 79th minute (78:25) when Dillon Trimble found the equalizer off a pass from Ronaldo Guzman to make it 1–1. However, Kean struck back late in the 88th minute (87:27) to reclaim the lead and secure the 2–1 victory.
St. Thomas finished the afternoon with 28 total shots and put 11 on goal. Goalkeeper Owen Fuentes played the full 90 minutes in net, making four saves for the Celts.
