Women’s Tennis Falls in SCAC Semifinals, Set for Consolation Match

KERRVILLE, TX – The University of St. Thomas women's tennis team continued play at the SCAC Championships, falling 4-2 to Concordia University Texas in the semifinal round. The Celts now stand at 8-5 overall.

In doubles play, St. Thomas was unable to secure the opening point as Concordia claimed victories on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts. Adriana Iturralde and Aimee Tran fell 6-4, while Ella Mullins and Nataly Velasco dropped their match 6-2. The No. 1 doubles pairing of Lucia Rodriguez and Mariel Herrera was in a tight contest before going unfinished.

In singles competition, the Celts earned two points. Mariel Herrera led the way with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3, while Adriana Iturralde followed with a strong 7-5, 6-2 win.

Nataly Velasco battled through a competitive three-set match but came up just short in a tiebreaker. Ella Mullins fell in a hard-fought match at No. 2, while Marlie McArthur dropped her match in straight sets. Lucia Rodriguez's match at the top spot went unfinished as the team result was decided.

The Celts will return to the court tomorrow at 9 a.m. to face Schreiner University in the SCAC consolation match.
