St. Thomas Defeats Schreiner

KERRVILLE, TX – The University of St. Thomas Women's basketball team put together a resilient four-quarter effort Friday night, pulling away late to earn a 73–60 road victory over Schreiner at Stephens Family Arena. The win improves the Celts to 12–5 overall and 6–4 in SCAC play.

UST set the tone in the first quarter with defensive pressure and aggressive drives to the basket. Amyia Bowie attacked the lane from the opening tip, scoring early and drawing fouls to get the Celts on the board. Jaydia Morris made her presence felt inside with strong rebounding, while Macie Whitfield knocked down free throws to help St. Thomas build a 16–7 advantage after one quarter.

Schreiner responded in the second quarter, tightening the game with a strong defensive stretch that slowed the Celts' offense. The Celts stayed composed with a score of 21-22 heading into halftime, setting up a pivotal second half.

The third quarter proved to be the turning point of the game. Bowie ignited the offense with consecutive baskets, including a strong finish in transition that sparked momentum. Whitfield was steady and confident at the free-throw line, while Morris controlled the paint on both ends. St. Thomas outscored Schreiner 26–16 in the quarter, reclaiming control and taking a 47–38 lead into the final period.

UST closed the game in the fourth quarter with relentless energy. Bowie continued to attack, converting at the line and finishing through traffic to keep the Celts in front. Schreiner made a late push behind perimeter shooting, but Whitfield sealed the win with clutch free throws down the stretch as the Celts matched Schreiner point for point in the final quarter to secure the 73–60 victory.

Bowie led all scorers with a game-high 28 points, adding three steals. Whitfield followed with 15 points, going 11-of-12 at the free-throw line. Morris contributed 10 points and seven rebounds, while Gibson added eight rebounds and steady defense in the post.
