HOUSTON, TX – The University of St. Thomas Women's basketball team earned a hard-fought 72–67 home victory over Texas Lutheran University on Friday night at the JAAC. Their win moves the Celts to 13–6 overall and 7–5 in SCAC play.
UST set the tone early with strong defensive pressure and efficient offense. Kameron Goodman knocked down an early three-pointer, while Jaydia Morris controlled the paint on both ends. The Celts used balanced scoring to open a 19–11 advantage after one quarter.
Texas Lutheran responded with increased physicality in the second quarter, but UST stayed composed. Yasmine Aly provided a spark off the bench with a timely three, and Branasia Brazelton attacked the lane to keep the Celts in front. St. Thomas carried a 35–25 lead into halftime.
The Bulldogs made their push coming out of halftime, using a strong scoring run to close the gap. Despite the surge, UST answered with key stops and steady play from Morris and Kenna Gibson to stay within striking distance as the score tightened to 52–52 heading into the final quarter.
With the game on the line, the Celts delivered their best stretch. Goodman hit another big shot from deep, Aly connected on back-to-back perimeter looks, and Morris finished through contact to swing momentum back to UST. The Celts' defense held firm late, and clutch free throws sealed the 72–67 win.
Goodman led UST with 16 points, while Aly added 15 off the bench. Morris chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds, and the Celts received key contributions across the lineup to close out the conference victory.
