SEGUIN, TX-- St. Thomas women's basketball team dropped an 85–76 match-up to Texas Lutheran University on the road Friday evening in Seguin, Texas. As a result, the Celts move to 11-5 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
The opening quarter was a defensive battle as both teams worked to settle into the game. Early possessions were marked by missed shots and strong rebounding on both ends before Texas Lutheran struck first inside. UST responded with timely defense and transition opportunities, highlighted by a fastbreak three-pointer from Kenna Gibson to give the Celts an early spark. Amyia Bowie and Laura Jones added key buckets late in the quarter, and Kameron Goodman knocked down a jumper in the final seconds to even the score at 14–14 heading into the second quarter.
Texas Lutheran began to gain momentum in the second quarter, using transition offense and second-chance points to build separation. The Bulldogs extended their lead behind strong interior play and perimeter shooting, while St. Thomas continued to battle defensively. Jaydia Morris and Branasia Brazelton helped the Celts stay aggressive, attacking the paint, and Yasmine Aly connected on a three-pointer late in the quarter. Despite the push, Texas Lutheran carried a 38–24 advantage into halftime.
The Celts opened the third quarter with renewed energy, cutting into the deficit with baskets from Macie Whitfield and Morris. St. Thomas found success scoring in the paint and forcing turnovers, with Bowie and Aly adding points. However, Texas Lutheran answered each run with timely shots and added defensive pressure on the Celts. The Bulldogs ultimately extending their lead to 66–48 by the end of the third quarter.
UST continued to compete in the final frame, putting together a strong stretch late in the quarter. Gibson caught fire in transition, knocking down back-to-back three-pointers, while Bowie and Goodman added fastbreak finishes to trim the margin to single digits. Despite the late surge, Texas Lutheran sealed the game.
Kenna Gibson paced the Celts with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including three from beyond the arc. Amyia Bowie added 13 points, seven assists, and four steals, while Kameron Goodman chipped in 11 points off the bench, knocking down two three-pointers.
