St. Thomas women's basketball team delivered a strong all-around performance at home, defeating Manchester University 73-57 to move to 5-2 on the season.
UST came out firing in the opening quarter, setting the tone on both ends of the floor. The Celts applied constant defensive pressure and held the Spartans to just five points in the first 10 minutes of play. Offensively, UST found an early rhythm that proved difficult to stop, scoring through a mix of three-pointers, layups, and fast-break opportunities to build early momentum.
Manchester began to add points in the second quarter, but the Celts continued to control the pace of the game. UST forced multiple turnovers that quickly turned into scoring chances, allowing the lead to grow steadily. With four minutes remaining before halftime, the Celts held a commanding 36-15 advantage. A fast-break layup from Kameron Goodman, followed by free throws from Macie Whitfield, helped UST extend the margin and head into the locker room with a 44-24 lead.
Coming out of halftime, the Celts maintained their intensity. UST's press defense continued to disrupt Manchester's offense, forcing more turnovers and creating additional scoring opportunities. The Celts stretched the lead to 20 points midway through the third quarter, making it 62-40 as they remained in full control of the game.
In the final quarter, UST showcased its depth by getting everyone involved. The Celts continued to score efficiently while maintaining defensive pressure. Jaydia Morris finished strong in the paint, while Kayla Barnett, Nora Aigberadion, and Yasmine Aly added points from the free-throw line to help close out the 73-57 victory.
Morris led the Celts offensively with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while also contributing five rebounds and two steals. Whitfield posted a strong all-around effort with 11 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks, anchoring the interior presence for UST. Kenna Gibson added eight points, shooting 2-of-4 from the field and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc, while also pulling down two rebounds.
